(2)  Right Hand Tie Rod End with Jam Nut

(1)  Instruction Sheet

STEP 2: Remove trunk floor carpet and fold down rear seats for easy access to the trunk.

STEP 3: Pull carpet from the shock towers.  Identify where the centerline of the shock intersects the carpet on the inboard side, place a small mark indicating this location; a small cut will be made in this location later to clear the shock tower brackets.

STEP 4: Install the trunk cross member bracket utilizing the factory holes located on the underside of the cross member. The mounting location for the link should be placed on the driver side of the car.  Place the large flat washers on the backside of the trunk cross member, utilizing the access holes in the sheet metal.  Use the short 3/8 bolts in conjunction with two lock nuts to secure the top bracket into place.  Prior to tightening, locate the bracket as rearwards as possible, taking up all “play” between the bolts and sheet metal mounting location.

STEP 5: Remove both shock mounting nut and rubber insulator assemblies on each side of the car from the shock studs.  You will have to use two wrenches, one to stop stud rotation and the other to remove the nut.

STEP 6: Install powder coated shock tower brackets over the shock studs.  The passenger side bracket has two link mounting points.  Place the nut and insulator assembly back over the stud and tighten.

Optional Steps:  *These steps are optional and don’t greatly improve functionality, therefore we only recommend these steps for complete race vehicles.  Go to Step 7 or choose from either Step 6A or 6B.

STEP 6A:  Mark the ¼ hole locations on the backside of the brackets onto the shock tower.  Drill four ¼ holes and use the supplied ¼ hardware to further secure the brackets to the towers.  The ¼ head should be located on the wheel well side placing the nuts on the trunk side.

STEP 6B: If you desire to weld the brackets into place mark the edge location of the brackets on the shock towers.  Remove paint and sealer from this location; also remove a small amount of the powder coating from brackets where you will be welding.  After welding is complete prep the area for paint and paint area to stop corrosion.  Check the backside of the shock tower as the heat affected zone may also require paint.

STEP 7: Place the long link between the shock towers.  The left handed tie rod end is to be placed in the passenger side bracket utilizing the lower mounting holes.  Place spacers on each side of the tie rod end and insert 3/8 bolt.  Standing at the back of the car, the link can be made longer if rotated towards the trunk floor and shorter if rotated opposite.  Rotate link to align mounting point on the driver side.  Place spacers on each side of the tie rod end and insert 3/8 bolt.  Place a washer and a 3/8 lock nut on each bolt but do not tighten.

STEP 8: Place the short link between the passenger side shock towers and the cross member bracket.  The left handed tie rod end is to be placed in the passenger side bracket utilizing the upper mounting holes.  Place spacers on each side of the tie rod end and insert 3/8 bolt.  Standing at the back of the car, the link can be made longer if rotated towards the trunk floor and shorter if rotated opposite.  Rotate link to align mounting point on the cross member bracket.  Place spacers on each side of the tie rod end and insert 3/8 bolt.  Place washer and a 3/8 lock nut on each bolt and tighten all 3/8 bolts.  Rotate the links toward the trunk floor about ¼ turn ensuring the links are tight. To eliminate link chucking tighten passenger side jam nuts on each tie rod end, rotate each link towards the trunk floor until rotation stops.  Securely hold links and rotate driver side tie rod ends away from the trunk floor and tighten jam nuts.  Note: The left handed jam nuts will tighten opposite to convention.

STEP 9: Place carpet back over the shock towers and verify that your original mark is at the location of the new bracket.  Cut a two inch slit in the carpet above the brackets so the carpet can fold around the brace.

STEP 10: Reinstall the trunk carpeting by sliding it under the brace.
