STEP 2:
Remove ball joint retaining bolt located on the bottom of the
spindle assembly.
STEP 3:
Separate the lower control arm, with ball joint, from the
spindle.
STEP 4:
Remove the two bolts on the rearward bushing housing and slide
housing rearward off of the control arm shaft.
STEP 5:
Remove front bushing retaining bolt.
STEP 6:
Remove control arm from the vehicle.
STEP 7:
Measure the distance each bushing is pressed into their
respective housings.
*Retain these
measurements for installation.
STEP 8:
Carefully press each bushing from its respective housing.
**Seek
professional help so that housings are not damaged during
bushing removal.**
STEP 9:
Remove rust from both control arm bushing housing and shaft.
STEP 10: Press
each of the nylon bushings into the control arms and into the
rear housings using the measurements from the stock bushing
locations.
Stock Bushing
Measurements:
Front Bushing:
0.175in pressed through control arm
Rear Bushing:
0.75in pressed through the housing
STEP 11: Lightly
grease all stainless steel liners and place them into the Nylon
housings.
STEP 11: Use 11A or 11B.
STEP 11 A:
(Stock Control Arm Location) Place a 0.048 and 0.005 shim on
each side of the front control arm bushing. Place thinner shims
toward the bushing. Slide control arm and front bushing
retaining bolt into place. Slide on the rear bushing in housing
onto the control arm and finger tighten bolts. Tighten front
bushing bolt only and check control arm motion. Control arm
should move freely without binding, side to side endplay should
be minimal. If binding occurs remove forward 0.005in shim and
check again. Once front bushing is adjusted, slide rear bushing
as forward as possible and tighten retaining bolts.
STEP 11 B:
(Increase Caster Control Arm Location) This will add another 0.5
deg caster utilizing the stock control arm. Place a 0.005 shim
towards the front of the vehicle and both the 0.048 shims and
the remaining 0.005 shim rearward the front control arm
bushing. Slide control arm and front bushing retaining bolt
into place. Slide on the rear bushing in housing onto the
control arm and finger tighten bolts. Tighten front bushing
bolt only and check control arm motion. Control arm should move
freely without binding, side to side endplay should be minimal.
If binding occurs remove rearward 0.005in shim and check again.
Once front bushing is adjusted, slide rear bushing as forward as
possible and tighten retaining bolts.
STEP 12: Reinstall ball joint into spindle and tighten
retaining bolt. An alignment should be done after install,
especially if the caster adjustment was utilized. |
